When the London 2012 Olympic Games begin in Stratford later this month, millions of visitors will arrive in London to watch and take part. But where are they all coming from?
According to LateRooms, more Americans are heading to the capital than any other nationality in the world.
Overall, the majority of visitors - excluding those coming from North America - will be visiting from Europe. The top 10 included countries like the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy and Switzerland.
In the international top 10, Australians are the second nation, following the States, to visit. Japan, Mexico, Zimbabwe and Ghana also all featured on the list.
Lynda Matthews, LateRooms.com’s Offline Marketing Manager, commented: “London is always a hotspot for international visitors over the summer months but it is interesting to see who the nationalities are that are travelling to the UK in the greatest numbers in 2012 for the summer events.
"LateRooms.com still has plenty of hotel availability, and as the big summer events draw closer, we are anticipating additional rooms to be released and seeing prices drop also. We would also advise customers to look into staying in the areas surrounding central London, where availability will be greater and room rates potentially lower.”
LateRooms compiled the visitor data based on hotel bookings made for the month of August.
