Budapest ‘best value’ for couples

Budapest is the best value destination for a romantic city break in Europe, according to a report by American Express.
A short break in the capital of Hungary – including a night in a three star hotel, a candlelit meal with a bottle of wine for two, and a city sightseeing bus tour – was estimated to cost around £153.74 in total.
Overall, destinations that are less known for their romance, like Lisbon and Prague, won out over the romantic staples like Milan and Paris, when it came to value for money.
Couples heading to Italy’s Milan will have to shell out twice as much as they would if they went to Hungary - the report estimated that a trip to Milan costs around £342.09, excluding flights.
Terry Perrin, Director at American Express Foreign Exchange Services said: “While going to see Leonardo Di Vinci’s ‘The Last Supper’, climbing the Eiffel Tower or visiting the Sagrada Família in Barcelona can set you back a fair amount of cash, you can soak up Budapest’s history in Heroes Square and experience Prague’s famous Old Town for free.”
“Destinations like Hungary and the Czech Republic provide tourists with value for money in other areas, for example; a meal can be up to 35 per cent cheaper in Budapest when compared with the equivalent French cuisine in Paris.”
